FESTIVAL || DE WERELD VD WITTE DE WITH KWARTIER
Every year the second weekend of September it's festival weekend in Rotterdam: It's all about art at De Wereld van de Witte de With Kwartier. The 'Witte de With Kwartier' is a district in the centre of Rotterdam, filled with bars and art galleries. Personally I think it's one of the best places in town!
The festival is the official opening of the cultural season. It starts on Friday at 5 o'clock with a cultural after work drink in one of the many bars. At 9 the official opening starts, this year with an ode to the district by famous rockstar Elle Bandita (who is from Rotterdam, woohoo!) and a light show from artists Joris Strijbos and Marco Broeders.
What follows is a weekend full of art and happiness. There are many expo's you can visit for free, there are pop-ups shops and live shows on the street. A little movietheater from WORM!
Years ago my friends and I sat front row at an amazing fashion show on a sunny Saturday afternoon, one of the big surprises of the festival. This year we visited the expo 'Dark Matters' at TENT. Cool, but kind of creepy! But the most fun part of the festival is the atmosphere. The people in the street, loud music, bars that serve outside... If you're hungry there's a foodcourt called 'Bunkerplein', next to the beautiful Arminius Church. And when it gets colder late at night, you go in. There are lot's of bars and clubs with special festival programs this weekend!
The days are inspiring and the nights are long at Festival Wereld van de Witte de With Kwartier. If you got a thing for art you definitely have to be there next year. But even if you don't it's a great place to trigger a love for art or just enjoy the cozyness, drink a beer and dance.
